The 2010 year in Scouting is bringing new activities to the Troop. Since the Troop is to be run as a "boy run troop", the boys are now planning and executing a lot more of the activities. The choice of activities is voted on by the Troop and then ok'd by the Leaders. Depending on the activity, 1 or more boys will plan the event. That includes everything from contacts, paperwork needed, rides to the event, and anything else that might be needed.
January 9th, 2010 They felt that bowling at night would be a great activity. The activity was planned and executed. The event took place at Doug Kent's Rosebowl Lanes in Newark, NY. Everyone that attended had a great time.
January 16, 2010 Our Webelo fun day is now becoming a yearly event. It was held at our Church in Victor. We had 12 webelos from 3 different area Packs. The boys planned and ran the events which included knot tying, ice rescue, snow snake, fire building, whale harpooning, and snow shoes. They also made fire starters and were shown how to use them. Everyone was treated to lunch that was made by the Leaders. The lunch was dutch oven cooking that had chili, chicken and dumplings, soup, toasted cheese, and hot jello (or hot cocoa). The event is used to get more interaction between the Scouts and Webelos.
February 7th, 2010 Troop 61 celebrates Scout Sunday with a Pancake Breakfast and snacks for the members of St. John's Church. It is our way of saying "thank you" for the use of the facilities.
February 20th, 2010 The annual Klondike outing. We had weather in the low 30's. It was a perfect day for this event. The events included shelter building, ice rescue, emergency carry, fire starting, snow snake,and ravine crossing. There was also a talk on animal trapping. Troop 61 came away with the award for "best in overall competition".
